

Otto Octavius started out as a good hearted, charming person, wanting to change the world for the better. Octavius' motto to Peter Parker before his transformation into "Doctor Octopus". Indebted, Otto helped him, his native Spider-Man, and another alternate Spider-Man in their fight against their adversaries on Liberty Island. Twenty years later, a version of him prior to his redemption and death was accidentally transported to a different universe through space and time alive from a spell performed by Doctor Strange, where that universe's Spider-Man helped release him from the corrosive AI of his tentacles. After eventually being returned to his senses by Spider-Man, he is persuaded by the latter to destroy his fusion reactor, though he does so at the cost of his life. From then onwards, Otto turned into a dangerous supervillain. He was an enthusiastic scientist and friend of Peter Parker who later became possessed by his own malevolent mechanical arms after an experiment with his fusion reactor funded by the son of his close friend Norman Osborn and Peter's best friend, Harry Osborn, went horribly wrong.

He also serves as a major character in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home and a cameo character in Sony Pictures Animation's 24th feature film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Otto Gunther Octavius, later called Doctor Octopus, is a major antagonist of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, serving as the main antagonist of the 2004 film Spider-Man 2 and a posthumous character of its 2007 sequel, Spider-Man 3.
